Wandsworth Preparatory School has been awarded the judgement of ‘Outstanding in all areas’.

Posted on: 24 Jul 2013

Following its first Ofsted Inspection, Wandsworth Preparatory School - which opened its doors to pupils in September 2012 - has been awarded the judgement of ‘Outstanding in all areas’.

Under the new 2013 Ofsted framework, ‘Outstanding’ is awarded to any school which provides an exceptional quality of education and significantly exceeds minimum requirements.

Ofsted inspectors noted that: "Children achieve exceptionally well in all areas of learning without there being an approach which is overly demanding. Teaching often uses inspirational methods that fire children’s imagination and extend their thinking skills. The curriculum provides children with rich and varied opportunities for high-quality learning."

The inspectors particularly liked the ‘Forest School’ curriculum at Wandsworth Prep School which aims to increase appreciation of the environmental, social and economic potential of natural habitats. Pupils take part in weekly sessions using various woodland areas in-and-around South West London.

The Ofsted Report states: “One of the main strengths is the equal importance placed on indoor and outdoor learning, coupled with a deliberate emphasis on an enquiry-based approach. The Forest School curriculum is central to outdoor learning and is supplemented well by the use of the outdoor area as an additional classroom.”

Melissa McBride, Headteacher at Wandsworth Prep, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that we have been graded as outstanding in our first ever inspection!  I believe that this judgement would not have been possible without the combined efforts of Wandsworth Prep’s talented and dedicated staff and the fantastic enthusiasm shown by our children.”
