Schools get together to evaluate Virtual Learning Environments

On Wednesday 6th February, ICT staff from each Bellevue school came together for an ICT Conference hosted by Edenhurst Prep School.

The main objective of the day was to explore the possibility of purchasing a group-wide Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), a portal which will enable the sharing of ideas, knowledge and best practice among staff and pupils across the Bellevue group.

ICT representatives from each school discussed and compared their current ICT provision and talked through their expectations of a VLE. During the afternoon session, interactive presentations were made by four different VLE providers to highlight the capabilities and benefits of using a VLE.

The event host Nick Copestick, Headmaster at Edenhurst Prep School, said: “The event enabled each school to become familiar with the benefits of using a VLE for pupils, staff and parents. It has been useful to gain an understanding of each school’s requirements as we evaluate the different VLEs available. This will ensure we select the most appropriate option for the whole group."

The conference also provided an opportunity for ICT representatives to meet each other and share ideas.

“The event gave me the opportunity to meet new contacts from across the group, discuss how VLE’s work in practice, and gain valuable insight into what VLE’s can do for us as an individual school and as part of a group” said Paul Orechoff, ICT Coordinator at Brabyns Preparatory School.

An evaluation will now take place to select a VLE which will best meet the needs of the whole group.
