Pupils take part in inaugural Bellevue Rugby Festival

Posted on: 28 Oct 2019

Pupils from a number of schools across the Bellevue Education group recently took part in the first Bellevue Rugby Festival, hosted by Holmwood House School in Colchester.

U11 Boys Rugby teams from Bruern Abbey School, Skippers Hill Manor Preparatory School, Norfolk House School, Gateway School and Holmwood House School came together to enjoy a series of friendly Rugby 7s matches, as well as training sessions with Holmwood House School’s sports coaches and Northampton Saints Academy link coach, Tim Grimsey.

Participating pupils also enjoyed evening entertainment and an overnight stay at Holmwood House School’s boarding house.

Holmwood House School pupil, Charles Doe, said “I enjoyed the Rugby Festival very much. The cinema night was good fun and I loved the dinner as always. I enjoyed having the responsibility of looking after the other schools in the dorm and having had a successful training session with all the other schools, we were asleep ten minutes after lights out!”

“My favourite part of the event was the Rugby. Our team played very well, we were spreading the ball wide, the tackles that we all did were amazing and we didn't give away a try all morning. Thank you for a wonderful time.”

Holmwood House Rugby Lead, Ollie White, who organised the Bellevue Rugby Festival alongside colleague Ed Cook, said “Ed Cook and I have been keen to host a sporting festival since Holmwood House School joined the Bellevue group. We were excited to meet colleagues from different schools in order to build a relationship with the various staff members and from this, we hope to replicate the festival in various formats to further establish these links.”

“We were also thrilled to facilitate our pupils in a new experience and to give them the responsibility of hosting the other teams in their boarding house. Mr Cook and I are very grateful for the support from the visiting schools in this new venture and would like to extend a huge thankyou to our colleagues within the Bellevue group and to our internal staff who helped make the festival such a success.”
