Pupils take part in groupwide Collaborative Learning Days

Posted on: 26 Feb 2018

As part of Bellevue Education's commitment to offering unique learning experiences to pupils across the group, Education Director Sam Selby has organised a number of academic pupil collaboration days in English, Maths, Science and Computer Science.

A number of pupils in Years 5 and 6 from schools across the group, recently took part in Collaborative Learning Days to enhance their experience of the English Curriculum.

Throughout each day, pupils were immersed in an interactive, enquiry based writing workshop focusing on why we have media and how it can be communicated in a variety of ways.  They worked in a simulated ‘news agency’ environment and were challenged to produce a news story in various formats to emulate the range of ways media is delivered to us today, such as social media, news broadcasts, written journalism and radio.

Watch the News Agency brief that the pupils were challenged with:

Working collaboratively with pupils from other schools in the Bellevue Education group, the children embraced the challenge of problem-solving and delivering purposeful and valid information to a deadline. Pupils were required to think critically about the validity of information and to explore effective ways to communicate news. As part of the experience, pupils also enjoyed a seminar around journalism and the purpose of news and media, delivered by Media Consultant and former Reuters journalist and Foreign Correspondent, Hannah Storm, who has over 15 years’ experience in the world’s leading news media.
