Medal-winning performances from school swimmers at Olympic Park

Posted on: 28 Jan 2015

Pupils from two Bellevue schools have achieved gold, silver and bronze medals in the Independent Schools Association National Swimming Competition, held at the London Aquatics Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, on Saturday 24 January.

The five children aged nine and ten, from Forest Park Preparatory School in Sale and Forest Preparatory School in Timperley were selected to represent the North, following qualification through the North Regional Finals.

Cheered on by proud parents, friends and families, the young swimmers took to the Olympic pool in front of 3,000 spectators.

Against fierce competition from independent schools from across the country, the team were awarded four medals:

Ben Davidson from Forest Preparatory School also achieved fifth place in the fifty metres breaststroke.

Swimming forms a key part of the broad Sports curriculum at both Forest Park and Forest Preparatory School, with pupils benefiting from weekly lessons.

Forest Park’s Sports Coordinator and Manager of the North Schools competitor team, Amanda Booth, said: “Congratulations to all of the children that took part in the competition. It was a truly amazing day and a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to compete at this level and to swim in the Olympic pool. The children were all so calm in front of such a large audience and we are very proud of them all.”

Forest Preparatory School’s PE Teacher, Christine Mitchell, said: “It was a brilliant day for the boys, their families who came to support them and for Forest Preparatory School. We are so proud of the boys’ achievements.”
