Medal haul for school swimmers at Olympic Park

Pupils from Forest Preparatory School and Forest Park Preparatory School have won medals in the Independent Schools Association (ISA) National Swimming Competition, held at the London Aquatics Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, on Sunday 21st January.

A total of eight children, all aged between eight and ten, from Forest Park Preparatory School in Sale and Forest Preparatory School in Timperley were selected to represent the Junior North team following qualification through the North Regional Finals.

Cheered on by proud parents, teachers, family and friends, the young swimmers took to the Olympic pool in front of around 3,000 spectators.

Against fierce competition from independent schools from across the country, the children were awarded seven medals, helping the Junior North team to overall victory:

Silver medal – Year 6 Boys Freestyle Relay (Ben K from Forest Park Preparatory School)
Silver medal – Year 5 Boys Freestyle Relay (Vincent E from Forest Park Preparatory School and Michael W from Forest Preparatory School)
Silver medal – Year 5 Girls Freestyle Relay (Ruby W from Forest Preparatory School)
Silver medal – Year 4 Girls Freestyle Relay (Georgia C from Forest Park Preparatory School and Ruby S from Forest Preparatory School)
Bronze medal – Year 4 Boys Freestyle Relay (Elleon C from Forest Preparatory School)

Swimming forms a key part of the broad Sports curriculum at both Forest Park and Forest Preparatory School, with pupils benefiting from weekly lessons. In addition, the schools participate in a range of swimming competitions and events each year.

Forest Park’s Sports Coordinator and Manager of the North Schools competitor team, Amanda Booth, said: “Congratulations to all of the children that took part in the competition. It was a truly amazing day and a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to compete at this level and to swim in the Olympic pool. The children were all so calm in front of such a large audience and we are very proud of them all.”

Forest Preparatory School’s Headmaster, Rick Hyde, said: “It was a brilliant day for the children, their families who came to support them and for Forest Preparatory School. We are extremely proud of their achievements.”

Neil Roskilly, Chief Executive Officer of ISA, said: “The Olympic Pool in London is rather special. What's even more special is to see children from ISA schools nationwide taking part in our National Swimming Finals, including disability swimmers for the first time. ISA's sporting programme continues to grow, with a firm emphasis on participation as well as enjoyment.”
