‘Learning for the 21st Century’: UK Teaching Staff benefit from group-wide training

Posted on: 11 Sep 2014

Teaching staff from schools across the Bellevue Education group started the new academic year with shared training workshops on the topic of ‘Learning for the 21st Century’.

Led by Nigel Battey, who has over 30 years’ experience in education, both as a Headteacher and as a Director of Services, the sessions explored the most effective teaching strategies and tools to fully involve children in their own learning. Focus was on the need to develop pupils who are well equipped for future challenges, able to work together and adapt to change, and who are instilled with the desire to ask their own questions.

The workshops allowed teaching staff at each of the UK schools to collaborate with others within the Bellevue group and to share best practice, and ideas developed at the sessions are already being applied in the classrooms, to benefit pupils this term.

Louise Hemsley, Reception Teacher at Skippers Hill Manor Preparatory School, attended the south group INSET session.

“The day was a fantastic chance to share ideas with colleagues from the other Bellevue schools, especially as we were sat with those who teach a similar age range. Nigel Battey was a dynamic speaker who reminded us of key elements of best practice and gave us many opportunities to consider how we might each use these to ensure that we deliver outstanding teaching in every classroom.”

Rick Hyde, Headmaster at Forest Preparatory School in Cheshire, attended the north group session and said, “The day was hugely productive. Nigel was an engaging, energetic and knowledgeable speaker. We will certainly be putting into practice some of his ideas and suggestions relating to how children learn. Staff feedback was incredibly positive and they were delighted with the opportunity to meet with colleagues from other Bellevue schools and to foster new professional relationships. All round a very rewarding day!”
