Gateway School raises £7500 for Ronald McDonald House Charities

Posted on: 04 Jun 2018

Gateway School has raised £7,500 to sponsor a room for Ronald McDonald House Charities at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

The independent day school’s pupils, from ages two to eleven, have taken part in a large number of fundraising activities organised by the School Council and the school’s parents’ association, Friends of Gateway. Activities ranging from obstacle courses, cake sales and mufti days have helped raise funds for the charity which provides free 'home away from home' accommodation to families while their child is in hospital.

Liberty Williams, a previous pupil in Gateway School’s Preschool, spent time in hospital and her family, including brother Toby who also attended Gateway School, were keen to fundraise for Ronald McDonald House Charities as a thank you for the support that they received.

Mrs Sue La Farge, Headteacher at Gateway School, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the amount raised to support Ronald McDonald House Charities. The school community has had a wonderful time organising and taking part in the activities to support this worthy cause and have all enjoyed making their donations, in the knowledge that they are helping others.

Fundraising and learning about charities is a vital part of life here at Gateway School and our pupils really benefit from understanding the needs of people who are supported by charities such as Ronald McDonald House Charities. Many thanks to everyone who has supported and donated so generously for this great cause.”

Commenting on the funds raised, Caroline Sinclair, Fundraiser at Ronald McDonald House Charities, said: “We cannot express how grateful we are to all at Gateway School for their superb support. It’s a fantastic example of a whole community pulling together after our Charity helped the Williams family with accommodation when Liberty was poorly.”
