Edenhurst pupils deliver a ‘brilliant’ performance

Posted on: 29 Mar 2018

Children at Edenhurst Prep School hosted a ‘brilliant’ show for parents, family and friends this week.

This year’s School Play, “Brilliant the Dinosaur”, took place on the evening of Tuesday 27th March at the Mitchell Arts Centre in Hanley. It was the third time that the School has staged the musical, with other performances taking place in 1993 and 1997.

This year’s performance was extra special as it was Headteacher Nick Copestick’s final School Play as Headteacher, during which he played the part of ‘Dad’. He will retire this summer after 42 years in the role.

He said: “The School has a proud history in music and drama, which is testament to our fantastic specialist teachers. Without their hard work and dedication, our children would not have the skills needed to be able to participate so confidently.

The School Play showcases the high levels of confidence instilled and musical and dramatic ability achieved as a result of being a pupil at Edenhurst and the children put on another fantastic show for their parents.”

Pupils in the School’s Year 6 class made the props for the play, which included the impressive dinosaur costume that was used in the show.

The School, which was graded “Excellent” by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in 2017, was praised by inspectors for its pupils “exceptional achievements” in the performing arts and music.

Recent productions have included “The Rocky Monster Show”, "Shakespeare Rocks", "Annie", "The Sound of Music", "The Wizard of Oz", "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" and "The Railway Children".
