Bellevue Education supports ‘Urban Squash’ initiative at The Wimbledon Club

Posted on: 24 Feb 2015

Bellevue Education has pledged its support, to help fund a new education and sport initiative at The Wimbledon Club in southwest London.

The after-school programme, now in its sixth week, is an optional club allowing children from often difficult backgrounds to participate in homework help and maths tutoring, as well as squash coaching.

The Wimbledon Club have partnered with Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Primary School in Battersea and 30 children, aged 9-11 are currently benefitting from the weekly sessions, which are funded entirely by donations.

Stacey Ross, Squash Director at The Wimbledon Club, said: “This is a UK first for our education and squash programme and I have personally found being involved in this to be particularly rewarding. Very few of the children had ever heard of squash before this initiative and are now gripped by the game. The tutoring element we hope will build classroom confidence, improve academic success and show the children why a healthy lifestyle is important. We are particularly grateful to Bellevue Education for its generous support of this project.”

Mark Malley, Bellevue Education’s Chief Executive Officer, said: “Bellevue Education is delighted to be supporting the Urban Squash project, which is already benefiting many schoolchildren in the area. It is fantastic to see and support the growth of, initiatives such as this, which provide opportunities that children may not otherwise have access to. We look forward to following the success of the project over the coming months."
